Bailly is becoming topical for all the wrong reasons. United cannot afford to give him a long-term contract because of his horrendous injury record and nobody is going to buy that excuse, despite his tendency to get injured on international duty.
For Maguire to have drawn level on appearances with a player who signed more than three years before him is embarrassing for Bailly. Yes, he should have played more this season but he has become United’s ‘sicknote’.
