Interesting to see Daniel James start on the right for Leeds and he has already gotten in behind Luke Shaw once early on. The offside flag saved United on that occasion, but the home side certainly have the pace to cause serious damage on the counter-attack.
Lingard is starting on the right but the tactical side is effectively waffle in an atmosphere like this. The colour is immense and the atmosphere intense. Today is not an occasion for an immediate tactical piece. Some of the chants are, frankly, unrepeatable and the air is thick with hatred.
Manchester United players stall after Wan-Bissaka appears to be fouled but Leeds play on and launch a great attack. Klich floats a ball to Harrison but he can only slice the effort wide.
Replays show that Wan-Bissaka was definitely fouled. The pouring rain has made it quite a scrappy start, with each time misplacing a couple of passes and not able to get a solid touch on the ball, while Leeds players have already gone in strong on a couple of tackles to the delight of the crowd. A start befitting of the edgy atmosphere.
The game has been livelier off the pitch than on it and, as passionate and aggressive as Leeds are, they are not a particularly fearsome team and if United had a modicum of confidence they would be controlling this game, at the very least. Up until Pogba left Forshaw for dead, United had shown barely any superiority.
Rangnick has just had a word with Lingard during the stoppage. You wonder when Lingard and Sancho will switch sides to mix it up. Both have done okay but not got on the ball often enough and it took Pogba popping up on the left to fashion United’s only genuine chance.
