Fernandes has started off in a wider role but it is still unclear if it’s 4-2-3-1 or he’s part of a 4-3-3, with Ronaldo also edging across and Rashford more central. It could actually be 4-2-2, looking at it now but if United are changing shape then that is encouraging.

United really do appear to be playing as six sitting players and then an interchanging front four – so far it is very much a work in progress. Defensively they still look very gettable and Palace are certainly posing a threat whenever they break.
