Greenwood’s recall was understandable and logical but he’s offered next to nothing. He can’t get his confidence back up at the moment, something you suspected might happen after that fabulous goal at West Ham.
Given how Greenwood is faring and the surplus of experts options on the right, it bodes well for Diallo.
Maguire has improved immeasurably recently but one area that does need work is his ability to score goals from corners. United’s set-piece delivery is getting better but when the ball finds Maguire he rarely does enough with it. That’s a pretty simple chance for a centre back who is good in the air, but somehow he’s headed it yards wide.
The great thing about that United goal is it’s exactly the kind of goal the other forwards in this team don’t tend to get. Fernandes had a target to aim at with the cross because Cavani was in the six-yard box, looking to be in the best position to score. He got fortunate with the goalkeeping error, but he was in the right place to capitalise it. A pure striker.
“Well done, Freddy,” roared one of the United analysts. Fred’s role in keeping the pressure on there was crucial. Shaw and Fernandes forced the issue but so did Fred and now United are penning Fulham inside their own area, never mind their own half.
