What a goal! Running on to a kick-out through the centre from De Gea, Edinson Cavani spots Alphonse Areola off his line and chips ther Fulham goalkeeper from about 45 yards out.
Cavani appeals for a penalty after throwing himself dramatically to the ground, claiming he’d been fouled by Tosin. No penalty. Bruno Fernandes sends another cross into the Fulham penalty area from the right. It’s headed clear.
We have our first “oooh!”. Aaron Wan-Bissaka slings a looping cross into the box from the right and Paul Pogba leaps highest to head high over the bar and into the Stretford End.
Fulham’s players are kitted out in yellow shirts, shorts and socks, while their hosts wear their usual home kit of red shirts, white shorts and black socks. Nothing of note to report so far. There are a few audible boos as the players take their pre-match knee, with a very small minority of those present voicing their displeasure with the anti-racism gesture. The mind boggles.
United host Fulham this evening (6pm kick off, UK time), knowing a victory will confirm a second place finish in this year’s Premier League. A draw may be enough, depending on what happens when Chelsea and Leicester meet in the later kick off.
Anthony Martial and Daniel James are not yet ready to return the United squad having been out with injuries and Harry Maguire is still sidelined with an ankle problem.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be keen for his side to return to form in front of their own fans, while having one eye on the upcoming Europa League final against Villarreal on May 26th. He’s named a strong line up for the game.
Edinson Cavani has been waiting all season to play in front of the United fans, and this is a particularly special way to mark the occasion with a lovely chip from at least 40 yards out:
