It looks like Garnacho’s brother (there is a resemblance) was in tears a few moments ago. Four or five family and/or friends of Garnacho’s are sitting together in the directors’ box. It’s a special night for them and him. Hopefully he has a good one.
The team sheet says a back-four for Sheriff, but they have started with a back five. Their game plan is clear, sit back and frustrate United with the hope of hitting them on the break or from a set-piece.
Ronaldo receives the loudest cheer again as the teams are read out one last time before kick-off. When you take a step back and look at the United line up again you remember just how star-studded it is. They need to put on a show tonight.
Manchestet United have lost just one of their last 20 matches at Old Trafford in the Europa League (W15 D4), although that defeat did come in their opening group game against Real Sociedad. United have only once before lost two home group stage games in a single campaign – in the 1996-97 Champions League.
It feels a lot like the Omonia home game again. United are well on top and pushing forward with every attack, though they have been sloppy in possession. They look comfortable and confident of winning but are struggling with their clunky link-up play.
