Portugal host Switzerland as they aim to get their first win of the Nations League campaign in a Group B fixture at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.
As the international fixtures come thick and fast, the second matchday of the Nations League is upon us. Portugal go into their game against Switzerland needing a win, after they drew 1-1 against Spain in their fist group game. They had to come back from behind to salvage a point against Luis Enrique’s team.
Switzerland, too, are looking to add to the win column. Murat Yakin’s side are coming off a 2-1 loss to Czech republic in their first group game. They are currently bottom of the group, but know that a win over Portugal will help them leapfrog the inaugural winners of the competition.
This is a very tough match to pick. Both sides have had relatively disappointing results, and will be looking to bounce back. A loss for either side will put them at the risk of being relegated. Usually in such games, it’s the talent that break through, and Portugal on paper have one of the best sides in the world.
The question remains on how well this lineup will gel together. But we will give Portugal the benefit of the doubt and say that they will get things done against the Swiss.
The major talking point for Portugal was the fact Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench, meaning he will surely be handed the chance to add to his already record-breaking international goal haul from the start this time around.
