This has been a stirring 40 minutes from United. It’s been their best half and that will make it particularly galling for Ten Hag that it is still 0-0. They should be in front.
The crowd are responding raucously and almost everyone in red has performed. Fred has been terrific, the full-backs have been proactive, Antony has been in crowdpleasing mode and had the productiveness to go with it. Rashford has been bright but lacked the goal – so far.
United have had 63 shots in just over 150 minutes of football at Old Trafford since Thursday night but scored just once, against Omonia Nicosia. It’s a pretty sketchy record and something that is clearly becoming an issue for Ten Hag’s side. They’ve been thwarted by Lloris tonight, although maybe only one or two of his saves have been excellent. United will be annoyed if they don’t go in ahead given their dominance this half.
Tottenham do not look like a team hat could be 10 points better off than United come 10.30 tonight. They have been cagy and coy, not dissimilar to the ‘lads, it’s Tottenham’ era that were easy pickings for United.
Conte does not appear too agitated by their performance and Ten Hag has seemed the more demanding of the two coaches. Spurs’s problem is Kane and Son are very isolated with the extra midfielder and none have stepped up consistently to act as a conduit between the midfield and the attack.
