That was very well done by Maguire. He was positioned like a striker, and the header followed suit. With that goal and Maguire, who Ten Hag didn’t need in the summer, United have likely escaped jeers at halftime in recent outings. He’s one of the few players who’s currently playing well.
There is still plenty of time for Manchester United to turn this around. They’ve had some good openings and had a fantastic opportunity to take the lead through Garnacho. Although Sheffield United had a strange sighter, Bogle scored a clinical goal first.
They haven’t played poorly in this game at all; it’s just a simple mistake and a terrible instance of miscommunication. Can we honestly state that United’s 1-0 deficit against one of the worst clubs in Premier League history at home is “embarrassing”? When Bogle scored, a lot of people stood up and started to leave. They may have had a heavy drink on this frigid evening as they went to the concourse for an early drink.
Sheffield United has so far shown creditable performance and has fantastic support from the away end tonight. Hojlund just had a sighting, but the angle tightened with his initial touches. It could be the first shot he’s had all month. Manchester United have been the better team so far but are struggling to carve out any clear chances. Sheffield United are defending deep and space is very much at a premium.
It’s clear Eriksen is playing as the holding midfielder, with Dalot for support every now and again. He’s not been overly tested in that role so far and when United are in possession it’s working. There have been a couple of warning signs when the visitors have found that space around Eriksen, but the game is being played to United’s beat at the moment.
