Manchester United booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup as they recorded a far more routine win over Brighton at the Amex than they did over the weekend.
United were in action for the second time in five days on the South Coast but there was to be no late drama on this occasion, as the visitors had the win wrapped up well before the final whistle.
A brilliant goal from Juan Mata to double United’s lead. Van de Beek flicked the ball onto the Spaniard and he fired calmly past the goalkeeper. Pogba heads a cross wide before United come forward again. This is comfortable now.
Scott McTominay opened the scoring for United in the first half with a precise header from Juan Mata’s free-kick, and Mata turned scorer after the break as he doubled United’s lead with a neat finish after some fine link-up play with Donny van de Beek.
Paul Pogba came off the bench and his deflected free-kick made it 3-0. What a goal. Paul Pogba’s free-kick takes a slight deflection and flies into the top corner.
