Juventus reclaimed 1st place in Serie A this weekend thanks to a standout performance from Cristiano Ronaldo (and some help from Fiorentina).
Now they’ll need to keep up this high level of play to hold onto the top spot.
The win ended a 2 match run where they failed to claim wins over Lazio and Sassuolo, which saw them drop 2 points behind Inter and let Lazio back into the Scudetto race. A win over Sampdoria would keep them on top of league through the winter break and help them end 2019 on a high note.
Sampdoria also ended a rough stretch over the weekend with a 1-0 win over Genoa that put them into 16th place in Serie A and helped them get a little bit more space between them and relegation. Before that match, they had lost back to back matches in Serie A and 3 in a row overall. Juve has had trouble when traveling to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in the past, so Sampdoria could have a chance to get their biggest win of the season on Wednesday.
Juventus will see both Miralem Pjanic and Juan Cuadrado return from suspensions on Wednesday after missing Sunday’s match. This will be the closest they get to full strength until Sami Khedira and Giorgio Chiellini return from their long-term injuries. Juve will continue to play in the 4-3-1-2 formation.
