According to a report published today on ABC, Real Madrid defender is ready to sign a contract extension that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2024. According to the same source, the extension included a pay rise.
While he is prone to injury and hasn’t played much recently as a result, he is the unquestioned starter at right-back and a vital player for Real Madrid, so they simply had to keep him hoping that he can stay fit in the future.
His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022, so the club needed to make a choice, and granting him a two-year extension seems realistic considering his significance to the squad.
Lucas Vazquez will most likely be Carvajal’s primary backup next season, despite the fact that his contract is scheduled to expire next summer and he has yet to negotiate an extension. According to Spanish media, Vazquez and Modric have accepted contract extensions from Real Madrid.
If he continues at Madrid until 2024, Carvajal may end up as one of the squad leaders.
