Arsenal midfielder will sign a permanent contract with Marseille at the end of the current season, according to Marseille president Pablo Longoria.
Mikel Arteta, who was released from the Arsenal first team in June 2020, headed to the Stade Velodrome on a season-long loan in the summer, with the French giants committing to acquire him outright if he meets certain appearance conditions.
He will sign a three-year contract after largely impressing in his combativeness and drive in the Marseille midfield so far this campaign, in which he has made 38 appearances in all competitions so far.
Given his eye-catching figures – the player has 11 assists and four goals in all competitions – the agreed fee is likely to be below his current market value, but it still represents a shift from paying people to go.
Fabrizio Romano claims Guendouzi has agreed a three-year deal. We’ll certainly be curious to see if he makes it to the end of that; it’s a combustible pairing if ever we saw one.
All going well, Arsenal should do further deals for other loaned players.
Lucas Torreira and Fiorentina both seem happy with their arrangement, Dinos Mavropanos is due to stay at Stuttgart if they avoid relegation (something that isn’t inevitable) and Pablo Mari, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson are also set to be made available.
