Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made three important additions to his team this summer, with Jadon Sancho joining from Borussia Dortmund in a big-money deal, Raphael Varane joining from Real Madrid, and third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton joining from Aston Villa.
Some supporters thought that the club’s transfer activity was done for the season because there hasn’t been much talk about more incomings in the media in recent days.
However, it looks like Manchester United may return to the market for another new signing before the transfer season shuts on August 31st, as concerns over Paul Pogba’s long-term future remain.
The Frenchman has one year left on his current deal at Old Trafford and is no closer to negotiating an extension, despite rumours connecting him to PSG, Real Madrid, and Juventus.
Obviously, United do not want to lose Pogba for free a second time, but they are in a vulnerable situation with his contract expiring, so it makes sense for them to plan for a future without him.
Manchester United are in talks with the agent of Aurelien Tchouameni and could launch a late move to sign the £34m-rated Monaco midfielder before the window closes, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Tchouameni a target
Several names have been linked with a transfer to Manchester United in recent months, but TeamTalk is reporting that the Reds are now contemplating a move for highly-rated Monaco youngster Tchouameni, according to writer Duncan Castles.
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Castles said that United had identified the 21-year-old as a possible target, adding that the £34 million [€40 million] Frenchman may be viewed as a long-term successor for compatriot Pogba.
According to TeamTalk, Belgian analyst Sacha Tavolieri reports Manchester United is already in negotiations with Tchouameni’s agency and may make a late bid to sign the midfielder before the window shuts.
Tchouameni is more defensively oriented than Pogba, but since joining Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020, he has evolved into one of the most highly rated midfielders in French football.
Obviously, United would be keen to keep Pogba, but he doesn’t look to be in a hurry to sign a new contract, so Solskjaer must prepare for the future, and Tchouameni would be an intriguing addition if Man Utd are able to lure him to Old Trafford.
