Man Utd Fans Attacked And Robbed By Locals In Gdansk Ahead Of Europa League Final

Around 2,000 supporters have travelled to Poland for tonight’s big game against Villarreal but many in a bar in the city’s main square were targeted by locals in an unprovoked attack on Tuesday night.

According to Simon Stone from the BBC, three United supporters suffered minor injuries. He stressed that there have been no issues between United and Villarreal fans whatsoever.

United issued a statement on the trouble, saying: “Club staff were assisting a number of United fans in Gdansk last night [Tuesday] and today after an incident where some of our supporters were attacked outside a bar.”

The individuals responsible for the attack appear to be Lechi Gdansk hooligans.

Earlier on in the day United fans had been seen drinking and enjoying the atmosphere in the outside area of the Fahrenheit Club and Restaurant.

This is the first away trip for the Red Devils since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in March and around 1,000 fans are expected to arrive in Gdansk today.

According to the Daily Mail, United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney is flying in for the game – while 500 tickets have been purchased by United fans in Poland.

Footage doing the rounds on social media showed a group wearing black running and chanting outside a bar, while tables were overturned, and chairs, bottles and glasses were smashed.
