Manchester United fans have a new hero. He goes by the name of Lisandro Martinez.
The defender is quickly becoming a fans’ favourite at Old Trafford for his no-nonsense defending.
The centre back arrived from Ajax for £56.7 million in the summer and there were initial concerns regarding his lack of height in the Premier League.
Those fears were only exacerbated when United lost to Brighton and Brentford in the opening two matches. At 4-0 down at half time against Brentford, Martinez was hauled off at half time.
During United’s 1-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday, there were chants of ‘Argentina, Argentina’ simply because of Martinez’s incredible performance.
Man Utd supporters may have feared the worst with Martinez having to come up against West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca but he handled the Italian brilliantly.

Martinez is already such a fan favourite that a group of United supporters have created an absolutely massive banner for him.
Nicknamed ‘The Butcher’ due to his aggressiveness, the flag features a big butcher’s knife on the background of the Argentinian national flag.
