Arsenal are still interested in acquiring Lille midfielder Fabrizio Romano, according to Fabrizio Romano, although the Gunners have yet to initiate discussions with the midfielder.
Lille midfielder is one of Europe’s most sought-after players. Of course, he was instrumental in Lille winning the Ligue 1 title last season. And he backed it up with some outstanding performances for Portugal in Euro 2020.
Unsurprisingly, he has been linked with a return to the Premier League. The 24-year-old is a fan of both Arsenal and Liverpool. In November, it was reported that the Gunners were considering selling members of their team in order to match Lille’s £46 million asking price.
Obviously, there would be no relocation in January. However, Romano claims that Sanches is drawing attention. Arsenal, he asserted, is still in the running. He also suggested that Liverpool and Barcelona are likely to be fans.
“At the moment, Arsenal are not in negotiations with Renato, with his agent, or with Lille,” he told Que Golazo. “So at the moment, the situation is quiet.
“But last summer, Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool were three clubs seriously interested in Renato Sanches. So I would keep them in the list because Renato Sanches is a kind of player that you keep on your list for the long-term. So I’m sure that he’s still on the list of the three clubs.
“Arsenal at the moment, interested, but still quiet on the negotiation side.”
Arsenal cannot afford to not sign midfielder this summer amid Sanches links
Arsenal’s continued interest is unsurprising. This season in Ligue 1, Sanches has been outstanding. And he should only be at the pinnacle of his abilities right now.
Meanwhile, the Gunners need to sign a midfielder. They let the January transfer window close without bringing in any new players.
Mikel Arteta’s team already has a dearth of options in the middle of the field. In addition, Mohamed Elneny’s contract expires this summer.
They can’t let the next window pass without bolstering their defences even more. After a quiet January, fans should expect huge things in February.
Last summer, Arsenal made a number of bold statements. They signed a slew of young athletes with sky-high potential.
Sanches is a perfect example of this. Carlo Ancelotti has previously described him as “outstanding.”
Lille is also not in a good situation. His contract is set to expire at the end of the following season.
Arsenal, on the other hand, may want to get started as soon as possible. Barcelona and Liverpool, according to Romano, may still be interested in Sanches moving into the summer.
