Edinson Cavani’s amazing goal vs Fulham has won the Premier League goal of the month for the month of May. The Uruguayan scored an incredible strike from 40 yards out to introduce himself to the Old Trafford fans in style.
Cavani was put through on goal by an impressive long pass from David de Gea and caught Fulham keeper Alphonso Areola way off his line.
Cavani impressed many in his first season at Old Trafford, after joining as a free agent when his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired. Over the course of the campaign he scored 17 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
There had been some talk the Uruguayan might not renew his one-year deal and instead go and play abroad in Argentina.
He decided to attempt a chip that perfectly went over the keeper’s head into the back of the net – sending the fans into a frenzy.
Cavani is the second Manchester United player to win the prize this year following Fernandes’ goal against Everton back in February.
He beat seven other contenders to the award including Danny Welbeck v Brighton, Ferran Torres v Newcastle, Luke Thomas and Bertrand Traore’s goals v Manchester United, Phil Foden against Brighton and Stephen Bergwijn v Aston Villa.
Meanwhile Joe Willock on-loan from Arsenal at Newcastle was given Player of the Month for May after an impressive goalscoring run to end the season.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was awarded Manager of the Month after five straight wins catapulted them into the Champions League positions.
