Chelsea report: Barcelona to reach ‘full agreement’ for Chelsea defender

Chelsea Transfer News

Chelsea appear to be on the verge of losing centre-back to Barcelona, with the player close to completing his move to Catalonia.

Since joining Chelsea as a 16-year-old, the Danish defender has progressed through the ranks, going on loan to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga before returning to become one of the Blues’ most senior and trusted centre-backs.

However, with the European champions eager to reduce their salary bill and the 25-year-old refusing to agree to fresh terms in order to stay in the Premier League, Barcelona have apparently pounced, with manager Xavi reportedly impressed by his ball-playing ability.

For club and country, Christensen has played in both back fours and back threes, as well as serving as a defensive midfielder-cum-libero at Euro 2020. Despite missing the physicality associated with Premier League defenders, the Dane has exceptional passing skills and game reading.

There might be a mass exodus at Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Rudiger due to go at the end of the season and Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta’s futures still up in the air.

Both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich were allegedly interested in bringing Christensen back to Germany, but Barca seems to have beaten them to it.

The recently crowned world champions and League Cup runners-up appear to be on the verge of changing hands as well.
