Chelsea have officially announced that centre-back has left the club after ten years.
The Dane joined Chelsea as a quiet teenager, but blossomed into one of Europe’s top ball playing centre backs.
After impressing in the youth teams, Christensen had his breakout with a two year loan to Borussia Monchengladbach. After a great spell in the Bundesliga he was brought back to Chelsea, where he started as a bench player under Antonio Conte.

He gradually battled his way to more and more first team minutes, and was a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s team which won the Champions League in 2021.
Losing him on a free to Barcelona is a real blow, given he would have fetched a serious sum on the transfer market. It’s a damning indictment of the future planning at the club – at least under the previous ownership.
We will now have to spend big to replace him.
