Manchester United are allegedly interested in signing La Liga Club’s centre-back.
During his tenure in La Liga, the France international has established himself as one of the best young defenders in Europe.
According to El Nacional, Chelsea and Real Madrid are interested in Kounde, but Manchester United now want him to establish a combination with Raphael Varane.
This seems that the Red Devils are losing trust in Harry Maguire as a first-choice centre-back, after the England international looked unconvincing in yesterday’s 4-2 defeat to Leicester City.
Maguire’s costly individual blunder resulted in Youri Tielemans scoring for the Foxes, and most supporters would undoubtedly conclude that the 28-year-old has never quite justified his £80 million price tag since coming to Old Trafford in 2019. (fee via BBC Sport).
El Nacional reports that signing Kounde would cost about €90 million, although the player himself is willing to join United above other teams.
The 22-year-old may be an excellent companion for Varane, and he could be the missing piece of the puzzle that finally makes United’s defense more solid.
Having said that, it is apparent that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is dealing with issues all over the pitch at the moment, with his midfield in particular in need of reinforcement.
But, having being allowed so much leeway during his time at MUFC, will the Norwegian tactician be given another chance to invest in this team, or will the club believe it’s time to hand over that trust to someone else?
